Inspection Process

Inspection Times

  • COVID-19 Inspection times:  Monday thru Thursday between 7 am and noon.  No Friday inspections.
  • Early morning (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.). Early inspection times are subject to availability and must be specifically requested. You will not receive a confirmation call. The inspector will contact you only if there is a conflict.
  • Morning (typically from 10-noon) or afternoon inspections (noon to 2:00 pm). Note: The inspector has counter hour Monday through Thursday between 9-10am and therefore is not available for inspections during that time.

Schedule an Inspection

To schedule an inspection, call (415) 927-5033 at least one day prior to the requested inspection date. It is recommended that you use a landline. You will be required to leave the following information:

  • The building permit number (located in the upper right hand side of your permit card).
  • The complete street address. Include suite numbers and tenant name for commercial projects.
  • The type of inspection requested (for example: framing, roofing, rough plumbing, etc).
  • The day you want the inspection and whether you are requesting a early morning, morning or afternoon time.
  • A contact name and phone number.
You will not receive a confirmation call. At the time of inspection, approved plans, permit card and access to area to be inspected must be available. Note if the permit is pulled as "Owner-Builder" the owner must be onsite for the inspection.

Keep Your Permit Active

To keep your permit active, you must have the work inspected within 180 days from the date of issuance. Permits valued up to and including $100,000 are valid for 12 months; permits valued up to $1,000,000 are valid for 18 months and; permits valued over $1,000,000 are valid for 24 months.
