    The Larkspur Library is excited to partner with PBS Books and with Chicago PBS to bring you this virtual event! The virtual engagement event will feature a talk with Suzanne Slade (Author) and Cozbi Cabrera (Illustrator) about "Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks." During this event, you will hear the read-aloud of the book, learn about the surprising 5+ year research process (primary source research) in a fun and relatable way, and have the opportunity to investigate the author/illustrator's collaboration and inspiration in this fabulous children's book about this iconic woman. It will be moderated by PBS Chicago's VP of Community Engagement Tim Rusell. Watch Live on the Library's Facebook Page.

  2. Garden Talk: Summer Vegetable Gardening

    The Larkspur Library invites you to come to a virtual workshop about gardening with UC Marin Master Gardener Joe Jennings. Get a jump start on planning and preparing your summer vegetable garden with Joe Jennings, Marin Master Gardener. He will cover variety selection, and garden planning, preparation, and planting. Special emphasis on crop rotation, scaffolding, irrigation, containers, and Integrated Pest Management. This course is designed as a refresher course and introduction on basics for every gardener to know. Joe Jennings is a UC Marin Master Gardener who grows vegetables year-round in his Larkspur garden. He graduated from Whitman College and earned an MBA from the University of Washington.   4. Fire Smart Landscaping with UC Marin Master Gardener Marie Narlock

    Fire season is upon us and you may be wondering what you can do today to help protect your home from wildfire. UC Marin Master Gardener Marie Narlock will offer guidance on how to plan and maintain a fire-smart landscape. She'll also share photos of gardens that demonstrate recommended best practices to create defensible space around the perimeter of your home. Marie Narlock has been a UC Marin Master Gardener since 2004. She studied landscape design through the UC Berkeley Extension and Merritt College and completed sustainable landscape classes at Sonoma State. She writes articles for the Marin IJ and is co-founder and editor of the Leaflet, the UC Marin Master Gardener e-newsletter.   5. Garden Talk: Organic Fertilizers with UC Marin Master Gardener Judy Orsini

    The Larkspur Library is proud to host a workshop on organic fertilizers with UC Marin Master Gardener Judy Orsini. In this detailed presentation, you will receive a brief review of the nutrients in fertilizers and learn what organic fertilizers are and why they should be used, as well as when and how to use them. Judy Orsini was a landscape architect who became a UC Marin Master Gardener in 2015. As a Master Gardener, she assists with the annual tomato market, teaches second-graders in the Exploring Habitats outdoor program, performs Garden Walks for homeowners interested in reducing their use of water and volunteers in a variety of other Master Gardener activities.
