CALGreen Standards

The City of Larkspur adopted the California Green Building Standards Code (CalGreen) effective January 1, 2014. There is different documentation required depending on the scope of your project, as explained below. Links to the various worksheets are provided for your use. The worksheets are to be printed on plan sheets and included in the plan set of your building permit submittal.

Residential New Construction
This applies to all newly constructed hotels, motels, multi-family dwellings, single-family dwellings and similar uses. If you are remodeling and 75% or more of all existing walls of an existing structure, measured in lineal feet, are demolished or deconstructed, then it will be considered “New” for purposes of this section. Compliance is at the Tier I level.

Residential Additions and Alterations
This applies to all residential additions and alterations that increase the conditioned area or volume of an existing dwelling unit. If you are remodeling and 75% or more of all existing walls of an existing structure, measured in lineal feet, are demolished or deconstructed, then it will be considered “New” for purposes of this section. Compliance is at the Mandatory Measures level.

Non-Residential New Construction
This applies to all newly constructed non-residential buildings. If you are remodeling and 75% or more of all existing walls of an existing structure, measured in lineal feet, are demolished or deconstructed, then it will be considered “New” for purposes of this section. Compliance is at the Tier I level.

Non-Residential Additions and Alterations
This applies to all non-residential additions and alterations that add 1000 s.f. or more to an existing structure OR the permit valuation of the alteration exceeds $200,000. If you are remodeling and 75% or more of all existing walls of an existing structure, measured in lineal feet, are demolished or deconstructed, then it will be considered “New” for purposes of this section. Compliance is at the Mandatory Measures level.
