Miniatures
By Amelia del Mello
My father made me a dollhouse when I was a child and I still have it. The furniture is wood.
It was Jules Charbeneau's exhibit of miniatures at Treasure Island World's Fair in 1939-1940 that really inspired me. He had the smallest of the small - paintings on pinheads, dressed fleas, etc. some of which I have in my collection.
I belonged to a mini club in Marin and attended many miniature conventions called "House Parties", finding items to add to my collection. The artists of today do precise replicas of the regular-sized furniture, food, plants, etc. in 1-inch to 1 foot, 1/2-inch to one foot, 1/4-inch to one foot, and smaller scales.
My daughter has carried on with miniatures in Southern California.
