Larkspur Public Works, Engineering Division Larkspur Bridge Rehabilitation Program |
The City of Larkspur is home to three bridges connecting Magnolia Avenue to streets to the east: the Bon Air Bridge, the Doherty Drive Bridge, and the Alexander Avenue Bridge. Over time, each has been damaged by wear or by tidal action, and has been repaired or retrofitted to varying degrees. Additionally, over the last 50 years, safety standards for the design of bridges and access to them have changed. All of these factors have contributed to Caltrans declaring the bridges "Structurally Deficient."
The City of Larkspur intends to repair, retrofit, and/or replace these three local bridges, under the Federal Highway Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement (HBRR) program. For minutes of past meetings and notices of future meetings regarding this project, see the Project Calendar.
The planned schedule for the project is for technical, environmental, and design studies to take place in 2008; detailed structural design activities to occur in 2009; and actual construction to start after mid-2010. The Alexander Bridge project will proceed at a later schedule than the other bridges. If you have any questions related to the Alexander Avenue Bridge project, please check our Questions & Answers page. If you have further questions, mail them to Larkspur Public Works at Larkspur City Hall, call Larkspur Public Works at 415.927.5017, or email publicworks@larkspurcityhall.org. All questions arriving by August 12th will be responded to on this site. Responses to questions asked after August 12th may be posted here, and will definitely be answered at the August 26th meeting.
